About Central University of Kashmir
The Central University of Jammu & Kashmir was established alongside 15 other Central Universities in the year 2009 by an Act of Parliament. Later the university was bifurcated into two Universities: the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) and the Central University of Jammu (CUJ).
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY:
- The State government earmarked 503 acres of land at Tulmulla and its adjoining areas in the Ganderbal district for the establishment of the permanent campus of the University.
- In May 2009, the administrative office of the University was set up at Baghi-Hyder, Hyderpora, Srinagar. The University later shifted its operation to Sonwar, Srinagar. With the expansion of the Academic & Administrative activities, the University established three (03) campuses at Nowgam area of Srinagar.
- In 2018, the University shifted to Ganderbal and is currently functioning from the following campuses:
- The Main campus of the University at Tulmulla is spread over a vast landscape with scenic surroundings, providing the campus with a calm ambiance suited for an academic institution. The construction work is currently going on in full swing at the campus site. The University is gradually shifting its departments to the new campus at Tulmulla. The number of students enrolled in various programmes offered by the university is in access of 2700 in the academic year 2023.
